Product Description
With 174 scientific references, The Dietary Cure for Acne clearly explains the ultimate causes of acne, and details a dietary program that will begin to clear up your skin within 30 days or less. Written by internationally recognized author and researcher Loren Cordain, Ph.D., this is the only scientifically documented program that directly addresses all four known causes of acne, and the only program shown to clear acne blemishes in a human clinical trial.

In chapter four you will learn how The Dietary Cure for Acne heals your skin from the inside by preventing all four known causes of acne. You will learn how the foods you eat affect hormones called IGFBP-3 and IGF-1, and how that affects pore blockage. You will learn how the type of fat you eat can affect bacteria proliferation in your skin. And you will understand how an enzyme called ZAG, that normally works to help keep pores open, is inactivated when you eat certain common foods.

Chapter six reveals the 11 types of food to avoid, along with a clear explanation of how that particular food promotes acne. The rest of the chapter provides a specific action plan. The diet is divided into two distinct phases. In Phase 1, which lasts 30 days, you will be attacking the causes of acne with every nutritional tool that can improve acne symptoms. By closely following the diet, your acne will rapidly improve. Phase 2 covers the next 3 months and beyond.

Chapter seven is titled The Good Foods, has a sample menu and complete information on all the food that you will be eating on this program.

After reading The Dietary Cure for Acne, you will understand how the right foods can prevent the pore blockage, excess oil production, inflammation, and bacterial infection that characterize acne. But most importantly, you will learn specifically which foods to eat, and which foods to avoid, so you can take action and get results.

I would not hesitate to echo what has already been said in other reviews about this book. Definately made a difference and I have more energy. I don’t throw stars around lightly – it is five-star-worthy in all aspects.

  2. At last we have some solid, scientific evidence to present to our clients that our modern western diet and lifestyle are creating nutritional deficiencies that result in skin disease – from acne to wrinkles. This book is a must read for practitioners and clients who want lasting results that work.

As a physician, I have often used Loren Cordain’s approach in counselling patients with multiple medical problems not just acne. I have had great success with his Paleo Diet approach to illness. Naturally, I was intrigued when he came out with this title. I originally purchased the book in the electronic form and recommended it to patients. I am pleased that it is now available in print.

It isn’t easy to change your diet and lifestyle but I can say that I have had no failures when the principles in the book were followed.

I have been a fan of Dr Cordain’s work for many years now. Like another reviewer put it, you wouldnt feed a lion grass and expect it to remain healthy. Why would human animals be any different?

I came to that conclusion as a kid when i use to raise tropical fish. To keep them in optimum health and breeding condition you cant just feed them processed fish flakes and hope that they get all they need. You have to recreate as best as possible the optimum conditions in which they evolved. This led me to my interest in human nutrition and my decision as an adult to become a Naturopath.

Another observation I had when I was in highschool was that when our school hosted Japanese exchange students they would start the year looking quite healthy, but by the end of their 12 month stay nearly all of them would develop acne. I knew then there was more to the story than what the textbooks said.

Cordain has done a superb job at presenting the science and epidemiological evidence that suggests that Acne is indeed linked to diet. It is written in enough depth to satisfy those with a more critical scientific understanding, but done simply enough that the average lay person can grasp the concepts presented.

The theory and evidence are explained in great detail, my only concern may be that a person purchasing the book looking for more practical advice may be a little overwhelmed. The Paleo Diet also by Dr Cordain does a much better job of showing how simple and enjoyable the diet and recipes can be, his website also provides similar resources. This is a very small criticism of what otherwise is an amazing collection of hard work and quality research.

This is a book that finally explains scientifically what the real causes of acne are and what you can do to alleviate them via diet.
